Our Sustainable Priorities

Sustainability is one of the core values of Frederick County Government. We strive to engage the public in our work, to be inclusive, and to gather input that can help ensure that sustainable living is accessible to ALL residents. Our efforts focus on projects that:

  • address environmental inequities,
  • reduce barriers to resources and information,
  • decrease our impact on climate change,
  • build a resilient, adaptable community,
  • protect human and environmental health, and
  • support sustainable living.

To Succeed, We need YOU!

We are working to create an inclusive, healthy community where the environment is protected and all individuals can live, learn, and thrive. But this can only be achieved if we have partnerships with community-based organizations, collaboration with other agencies, input from stakeholders, and the involvement of engaged citizens.

Interested in working with us?

Green Partners play a pivotal role as they are the bridge that helps us connect to diverse populations throughout Frederick County! We want to ensure that all community members have a voice to advocate for their well-being, livelihood, and resiliency.

Here are ways to become a Green Partner

  • The Green Leader Brigade is made up of individuals who volunteer alongside our staff to work on a variety of projects such as planting trees,  watershed monitoring, youth programs or community outreach, and neighborhood cleanups.
  • Green Ambassadors are organizations that partner with the Division of Energy and Environment to help connect people to programs, resources, and ideas that promote sustainability. These groups refer individuals to our services and we provide educational programs or trainings, participate in events, and work together to help our community go green!
  • The Frederick County Sustainability Commission meets monthly to discuss policies and programs that will advance Frederick County's progress toward its sustainability and climate goals.
